TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The friendly match between the Danish national team and Ukraine at Odense Stadium, Denmark, on Sunday, June 7, 2026, was halted due to the collapse of the home team's midfielder, Christian Eriksen, in the second half.

The incident occurred in the 65th minute when Eriksen suddenly fell to the ground with Norway leading 2-1 against the visiting team.

According to a report by Sport Illustrated, as cited by Antara, the player, who now plays for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, clutched his chest before collapsing.

The incident immediately sparked panic among players from both teams, coaching staff, medical staff, and the crowd packed in the stadium.

The medical team immediately entered the field to provide assistance to Eriksen. Several players immediately called for medical assistance, while support staff and Eriksen's family rushed to the pitch.

After receiving swift treatment, the 34-year-old player regained consciousness. Eriksen was then able to stand and leave the field on foot, greeted by enthusiastic applause from the crowd. Following the incident, the organizers decided to stop the match.

A few hours later, the Danish Football Association (DBU) immediately provided an update on Eriksen's condition via their official Twitter account.

"Christian Eriksen is in good condition and was able to walk off the pitch on his own. He will undergo a series of medical examinations at the hospital to determine the exact cause of the incident. Christian is fine. He asked me to convey my regards to all the players and to say that he is in good condition," said Danish national team doctor, Morten Boesen.

Meanwhile, Danish national team coach Brian Riemer admitted that the incident was a very shocking experience for everyone in the stadium.

"First of all, it was a very shocking experience for everyone, staff, players, and the opposing team. Doctor Morten Boesen was able to confirm that Christian was fine. That's the only thing that matters in this situation," Riemer told TV2.

The incident brought to mind a similar incident that Eriksen experienced while playing for Denmark at Euro 2021.

At that time, he suffered cardiac arrest mid-match and subsequently underwent a pacemaker before finally returning to his career at the highest level of European football.

The cause of Christian Eriksen's collapse in the match against Ukraine is still pending further medical examinations.
