TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli put on a dominant performance to win the dramatic 2026 Formula 1 (F1) Monaco Grand Prix (GP) at the Monte Carlo Circuit on Sunday evening, Western Indonesian Time.
According to the Formula 1 website, the victory gave Antonelli, who is only 19 years old, five of the six Formula 1 races this season.
This impressive achievement puts the Italian driver in the lead of the 2026 Formula 1 drivers' standings with 156 points, followed by Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) with 92 points in second place and his Mercedes teammate George Russell in third place (88 points).
Antonelli also has a strong chance of becoming world champion if he continues his consistent performance in the remaining 16 Formula 1 races this season.
In Monaco, Antonelli crossed the finish line in first place after avoiding the various incidents and technical problems that befell his rivals.
Just behind him were Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar (Red Bull Racing) in third place.
The Monaco Grand Prix was a chaotic affair, with a total of seven drivers failing to finish. Antonelli's Mercedes teammate, George Russell, also failed to score points.
When the race started, Antonelli was able to maintain his lead smoothly. In contrast, Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) immediately encountered major problems.
Verstappen's car allegedly experienced a faulty anti-stall system at the start, causing him to lose several positions. He returned to the pits and became the first driver to fail to finish.
Meanwhile, at the front, Antonelli continued to demonstrate his speed and slowly pulled away from the chasing Ferrari duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Leclerc himself also retired due to a collision.
Hamilton managed to secure second place after a solid performance throughout the race, while Hadjar capitalized on various incidents behind him to claim third place on the podium.
Outside the points zone, Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi) and George Russell, who had to settle for a place outside the top 10 after receiving a penalty throughout the race.
Nico Hulkenberg (Audi) finished the race in 14th place, while Franco Colapinto (Alpine) was the last driver to cross the finish line.
Not only Verstappen, Lando Norris also had to retire early due to power issues in his McLaren. This result meant Norris failed to score points for the first time this season.
Other drivers who failed to finish were Ollie Bearman, Valtteri Bottas, Lance Stroll, Charles Leclerc, and Carlos Sainz. Bottas again suffered from the brake problems that had plagued his team all weekend.
Meanwhile, Stroll and Leclerc crashed and hit the barriers in the closing stages of the race.
Sainz also suffered misfortune after being involved in two separate incidents with Nico Hulkenberg and Franco Colapinto after the restart. As a result, Alex Albon became the only Williams driver to score points at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix.
