TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia and Malaysia affirm their commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors through the 17th Indonesia-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in Jakarta on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono says that JCBC provides an opportunity to assess ongoing bilateral cooperation and project new opportunities for the future.

"Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed to continue strengthening coordination to enhance broader cooperation in various sectors," Sugiono says in a joint press statement with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan following the JCBC meeting.

According to Sugiono, the efforts to enhance economic relations and citizen protection are among the agendas discussed by the Indonesian and Malaysian delegations.

Both countries also discuss strategic positions for expanding international relations, particularly in regional stability and efforts to achieve world peace.

Sugiono believes that Indonesia and Malaysia, as nations linked with similar ethnicities, cultures, and languages, can continue to optimize their shared potential for the prosperity and well-being of their respective people.

On the same occasion, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan welcomes the return of the JCBC, given that the last dialogue took place in 2018.

He maintains that the Indonesia-Malaysia JCBC, serves as a platform to resolve remaining bilateral issues, in addition to affirming the commitment to cooperation between the two countries.

Hasan said through the JCJC dialogue, Indonesia and Malaysia intend to "untangle the knots" of complicated bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Malaysian Foreign Minister also believes that dialogue with Indonesian partners through the JCBC mechanism can help both countries align their shared vision and realize the goals of their respective leaders to enhance cooperation.

The Indonesia-Malaysia JCBC was held following bilateral consultations between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in July 2025.
