TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s women’s singles shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani saw her run at the Indonesia Open 2026 come to an end after losing in the quarterfinals to China’s fourth seed Chen Yufei at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, June 5, 2026.

Putri, commonly known as Putri KW, went down in straight games 13–21, 20–22. The result extended her head-to-head record against the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist to 0–4.

Chen dominated the opening game, controlling rallies from the start as Putri struggled to break through her opponent’s consistency, eventually losing 13–21.

The Indonesian showed stronger resistance in the second game, taking an early lead and even reaching game point in an attempt to force a rubber game. However, Chen held her composure in the closing stages, saving key points and turning the match around to seal a 22–20 win.

Putri said Chen’s biggest strength was her ability to maintain focus and consistency even when trailing.

“Even when she was far behind, her focus and consistency remained strong. I often made unforced errors and lost points in those moments,” Putri said after the match.

The defeat also ended Indonesia’s campaign in the women’s singles event at the Indonesia Open 2026, with Putri being the last remaining home representative in the category.

She has yet to register a win against Chen in their four meetings, having also lost at the 2025 Swiss Open semifinals and the 2025 All England round of 16.

Despite the exit, reaching the quarterfinals marks Putri’s best result at a Super 1000 tournament this season, following her win over Canada’s Michelle Li in the round of 16.

Chen, meanwhile, advanced to the semifinals, where she will face top seed South Korea’s An Se-young for a place in the final.
