TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo revealed two strategies to stabilize the rupiah exchange rate.
Working with the Ministry of Finance, the central bank will first improve the investment instrument yields to attract foreign capital into the domestic financial market.
Perry explained that the global interest rate hike has triggered the outflow of foreign capital from the domestic market, namely from the stock market, Government Bonds (SBN), and Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI).
"Therefore, fiscal and monetary authorities agreed to jointly increase the attractiveness of yields so that these inflows can reunite and support the stability of the rupiah exchange rate," he said in a press conference at the DPR Building, Jakarta, on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
According to Perry, the second strategy is maintaining the liquidity sufficiency in the money market and banking system. Perry said that the government's money management remains with BI, but there is an increase in interest remuneration paid by the central bank to the government.
Remuneration is the interest or yield on government fund placements at Bank Indonesia. According to Perry, this increase in remuneration can keep the government's interest burden under control. "At the same time, it answers the concern of one of the rating agencies, that the interest payment is under control," Perry told reporters.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudi Sadewa claimed that Indonesia's economic fundamentals remain in good condition. According to him, the government will ensure that fiscal policies are implemented properly to ensure economic growth.
The State Treasurer also said that the Ministry of Finance will strengthen policy coordination with the central bank. "Of course, if the policies are already integrated, with full synergy, it should restore market confidence in the rupiah," he said, expressing hope that the measures will not weaken rupiah further and instead strengthen the currency.
