JAKARTA – State-owned electricity company PLN has denied reports of a power tariff increase, saying electricity rates remained unchanged during the April–June 2026 period in accordance with a policy set by Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
Gregorius Adi Trianto, Executive Vice President for Corporate Communications and Social and Environmental Responsibility at PLN, said higher electricity bills reported by some customers may be linked to changes in consumption patterns rather than tariff adjustments.
According to Gregorius, several factors can drive increased electricity use, including weather conditions, rising temperatures, and greater household activity.
“Increased activity at home leads to higher use of everyday electrical appliances,” he said, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday, June 2.
His remarks came in response to widespread discussions on social media, where users have complained about sharp increases in their electricity bills. PLN, he stressed, has not raised electricity tariffs.
“PLN confirms that there has been no increase in electricity rates,” Gregorius said.
Earlier, several users on social media platform X reported that their electricity bills had surged by as much as 100 percent, accompanied by a significant rise in recorded power consumption. Some users claimed there had been no change in their electricity usage habits or the number of electronic devices in their homes, prompting speculation that PLN had increased tariffs.
Gregorius reiterated that PLN continues to implement electricity tariff policies set by the government through the Energy Ministry.
“For the April–June 2026 period, electricity tariffs remain unchanged from the previous quarter,” he said.
He also encouraged customers to independently monitor their electricity consumption through the PLN Mobile application. The app allows users to review token purchase histories and bill payment records, helping them better understand and manage their electricity usage.
To check consumption records, customers can open the PLN Mobile app and select the “Token and Payment” menu on the homepage. Users who have not yet registered their customer ID can add it through the application. Postpaid customers can then access the “Usage History” feature, while prepaid users can view their “Token Purchase History.”
PLN also urged customers to use electricity safely and responsibly. Gregorius advised households to regularly inspect their electrical installations and unplug electronic devices when they are not in use to help keep energy consumption under control.
