TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said it is not prohibited for state officials to pay out of their pockets for state-sanctioned travels. The minister said this in response to President Prabowo Subianto's overseas trips with self-funded additional costs.
"There is no regulation that bars me from using my own money to cover the costs of work travel. It's allowed," Purbaya said when asked by reporters in a press conference on Friday, June 5.
But the state treasurer stopped short from detailing Prabowo's state visit budgets, despite having the financial records. Purbaya directed inquiries of the same line to the State Secretariat.
"Look, you want to know the President's secrets? No, you cannot. We only know the numbers, and if you want a definite answer, ask the State Secretariat," said Purbaya.
The use of Prabowo's personal funds to cover additional costs during his overseas travels was previously revealed by the Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Teddy's statement simultaneously clarified various issues related to the costs of Prabowo's state visits and responded to comments from former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal regarding President Prabowo's overseas travel. "So, any excess costs beyond what was earmarked in the state budget are fully funded by President Prabowo personally," Teddy said as quoted from Antara.
Meanwhile, Dino, in a video posted on his social media, underscored Prabowo's overseas trips, which he deemed to have incurred significant expenses.
He noted that since he assumed the presidency, Prabowo has spent 1 out of a total of 6 days abroad. Thus, he was unsurprised that some considered this to be unusual. He also believed that in the next 18 months, President Prabowo would continue to make international visits at the same high frequency.
