TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has instructed central kitchens operating the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program to refrain from serving omelets. According to him, omelets risk falling short on nutritional value, as they are often padded out with more flour than actual eggs.
The Gerindra Party chair delivered the directive during a national coordination meeting with MBG partners in Sentul, Bogor, West Java. "Partners, secondly, do not make the eggs into omelets," Prabowo said on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat.
Prabowo voiced concerns that omelets may not be nutritious enough for the MBG program as the egg portion might be small. "I have lived in Indonesia for a long time. When it comes to omelets, people mix them with all sorts of things, right? The flour content ends up outweighing the egg," he noted.
The former defense minister insisted that the portion of eggs served to MBG beneficiaries must not be compromised. He specified that each meal should include at least one whole egg.
Prabowo urged partners running the nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG) to opt for boiled or sunny-side-up eggs instead. For the same reasons, he expressed hope that MBG kitchens would also steer clear of scrambled eggs. "Ensure that there are no more omelets. Scrambled eggs are okay," Prabowo added.
Prabowo hosted the gathering, titled "Building Indonesia's Future Generations Through Nutrition," at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC) in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, June 3. The event drew 12,173 participants, including the heads of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Office (KPPG), regional and SPPG coordinators from across the archipelago, SPPG chiefs, and MBG implementing partners.
The meeting took place just a day after the President dismissed three top officials from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The ousted officials, namely former BGN chief Dadan Hindayana and two former deputy chiefs, retired police Inspector General Sony Sanjaya and retired military Lieutenant General Lodewyk Pusung, have since been named suspects in a corruption case by the Attorney General’s Office.
Dadan’s position at the helm of the BGN has been assumed by Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who previously served as the agency's deputy chief.
