TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Nanik Sudaryati Deyang as the new head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), replacing Dadan Hindayana, who has been named a suspect in an alleged corruption case.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said Nanik's experience within the agency made her a strong candidate for the position. Prior to her appointment, she served as BGN deputy head.
"We believe she has had sufficient time to understand all the processes and activities carried out by the National Nutrition Agency," Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, June 4.
Prasetyo said Nanik had played a key role in overseeing the agency's evaluation and monitoring functions and was known for her strict approach to governance.
"She is one of those who is very disciplined and firm," said Prasetyo, a politician from the Gerindra Party.
According to him, Nanik has consistently enforced BGN's operational standards and is committed to maintaining the quality of the government's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, one of President Prabowo's flagship initiatives.
Prasetyo said those qualities were among the main considerations behind her appointment, particularly as the agency seeks to restore public trust and strengthen its internal management.
"The goal is to quickly carry out improvements and recovery efforts," he said.
He added that Nanik is scheduled to be formally sworn in next week. However, she has already assumed the position administratively following the issuance of a presidential decree confirming her appointment.
Prabowo dismissed Dadan from the top BGN post on June 2. A day later, the Attorney General's Office named him a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the agency.
Dadan was removed alongside two other senior BGN officials: former deputy head Inspector General (Ret.) Sony Sanjaya and Lieutenant General (Ret.) Lodewyk Pusung.
The Attorney General's Office has since named all three officials suspects in the corruption investigation.
Nanik, who previously served as BGN deputy head, now leads the agency as it faces heightened scrutiny following the corruption allegations.
