TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Vladivostok, Russia, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) as its main guest of honor, following a special invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Prabowo arrived at Vladivostok International Airport at around 10:45 a.m. local time and was welcomed by Primorye Region Vice Governor Said Yusupov and Vladivostok Foreign Relations Minister Konstantin Sidorenko.
He was also greeted by Indonesian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, Indonesian Defense Attaché to Moscow Air Vice Marshal Budi Susilo, and Indonesia's Honorary Consul in Vladivostok Anton Zubkho.
A group of Indonesian students in Vladivostok also welcomed Prabowo upon his arrival, waving Indonesian flags and greeting the president.
The visit is part of Indonesia's efforts to deepen ties with Russia, particularly in trade, investment, economic cooperation and other potential sectors.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said Putin had specifically invited Prabowo to attend the EEF as its main guest of honor, describing the invitation as a reflection of the close relationship between the two countries.
"President Putin specifically invited President Prabowo as the main guest of honor at the EEF. This reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and Russia, which continues to be built and strengthened through direct diplomacy between the two leaders," Teddy said in Jakarta on Tuesday night.
Prabowo previously attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2025 as an honorary guest. His participation in this year's EEF continues Indonesia's engagement with Russia's major international economic forums.
Indonesian Students Welcome Prabowo in Vladivostok
Several Indonesian students living in Vladivostok were among those who greeted Prabowo when he arrived in the Russian city.
Andini Yuliasari, an Indonesian student who has studied in Vladivostok for four years, said she was nervous and excited to meet the president in person.
"I was nervous, of course, but also very happy because this was my first time meeting him and having the opportunity to shake his hand. It was a memorable experience," Andini said.
She said Prabowo's visit was a source of pride for Indonesians living in Vladivostok and expressed hope that his participation in the EEF would further strengthen relations between Indonesia and Russia.
Kiki Rizki Agustiani, a postgraduate psychology student who has lived in Vladivostok for three years, also said she was excited to see an Indonesian president visit the city.
"Honestly, I'm very happy because this is also my first experience. President Prabowo is the first Indonesian president I've seen visit Vladivostok," Kiki said.
Prabowo and a limited delegation departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
The president was accompanied by Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto.
Investment and Downstream Industry Minister Rosan Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy also joined the delegation.
The EEF is being held at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, where Prabowo is expected to use the forum to expand Indonesia's economic and investment cooperation with Russia.
