TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and investigators gathered on the 15th floor of the agency's building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon, March 19, 2026. Among the topics discussed was a change in the detention status of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, religious affairs minister from 2020 to 2024.
That day marked exactly one week since the KPK detained Yaqut. In the meeting, he received a favorable outcome. The meeting approved his transfer to house arrest. The suspect in the haj quota corruption case left the KPK detention center on Thursday night, hours after the leadership meeting.
As a result, Yaqut was able to celebrate Eid at his home in Condet, East Jakarta. At the same time, another suspect in the case, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, also known as Gus Alex, Yaqut's special staff when he was minister, remained in detention. "The decision to transfer the detention status was approved in a leadership meeting," KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told Tempo on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Yaqut's house arrest only became known during Eid celebrations. Silvia Rinita Harefa, the wife of then deputy manpower minister Immanuel Ebenezer, also known as Noel, revealed that Yaqut was not in KPK custody alongside her husband.
