TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday inspected a Transjakarta electric bus assembled at PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk’s electric commercial vehicle plant in Magelang, Central Java, ahead of the facility’s official inauguration.
Based on a livestream broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat on YouTube, Prabowo arrived at the site at around 11:30 AM local time to inaugurate the plant.
Before the ceremony, the president toured the facility and viewed several electric vehicles assembled there, ranging from trucks to buses.
During the visit, Prabowo boarded a Transjakarta electric bus produced at the plant and sat in the rear passenger section for about five minutes while assessing the vehicle’s comfort. He listened to an explanation from PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas President Commissioner Anindya Novyan Bakrie during the inspection.
Afterward, Prabowo continued reviewing several other electric vehicle units inside the factory.
He was accompanied by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Prabowo was scheduled to officially inaugurate the electric commercial vehicle assembly plant operated by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas in Magelang later that day.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the factory produces electric transportation vehicles such as buses and trucks as part of Indonesia’s efforts to develop its domestic electric vehicle industry.
He added that the inauguration aligns with the government’s push to shift the transportation sector away from fossil fuel-based energy toward renewable and cleaner energy sources, including electricity.
According to Prasetyo, the government has introduced a range of policies aimed at accelerating the country’s energy transition, including encouraging changes in public transportation patterns to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
