TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lumajang Regency, East Java, has been recording data on the impact of forest fires, including in the area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TN BTS) in Senduro Subdistrict. The affected area by the fire is located in the western part of Lumajang Regency.
According to data from September 1, 2026, the burned forest area in TN BTS has reached 3,072 hectares, 1,887 of which are in Ranu Kumbolo.
Isnugroho, the head of the Lumajang Regency BPBD, stated that firefighting efforts in the TN BTS forest will continue until Thursday, September 3, 2026. “Today, personnel will be divided into several teams, which will continue monitoring and handling if there are still any hotspots,” said Isnugroho to Tempo on Thursday morning.
The northern part of Lumajang Regency was also affected by a forest fire. Specifically, the Forest Management Resort (RPH) Ranupakis area in Papringan Village, Klakah Subdistrict, was affected. The burned forest area on Wednesday, August 2, 2026, was approximately 3 hectares. The Sengon area in the south of Lumajang also suffered from the fire on the same day. According to Isnugroho, the fires in these two areas have been extinguished.
The water bombing method is being carried out according to the situation and weather conditions in Ranupane. Isnugroho ensured that manual firefighting is also carried out with gepyok, jet shooter, and blower. As of September 2, there have been 21 water bombings, equivalent to 21,000 liters of water. The East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency deployed a helicopter with the registration PK-DAP with a capacity of 1,000 liters for this purpose.
The Acting Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for BNPB Disaster Management, Berton Panjaitan, urged the public to be vigilant against the risk of drought and forest fire, particularly in regions experiencing low rainfall and dry vegetation. “Do not open or clear agricultural areas with fire, as it can easily spread and is difficult to control in dry conditions,” he said.
