TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Music legend Lionel Richie has reportedly been hospitalized in intensive care after appearing to struggle during his latest concert in St. Louis, Missouri.
The 77-year-old singer performed in the city over the weekend before reportedly checking himself into a local hospital for medical tests, according to News.com.au, citing TMZ.
Footage from the concert shows Richie performing his 1983 hit All Night Long (All Night). About a minute into the upbeat song, he appeared to signal to a member of his stage crew for a stool before performing the remainder of the roughly six-minute song while seated.
TMZ reported that Richie was being treated for suspected dehydration and was hoping to be discharged the following day.
The reported hospitalization comes about two months after another health scare during Richie's joint tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
In early July, Richie became unwell during the opening night of the tour in Minnesota and ended his performance after about an hour on stage.
Footage from the concert showed Richie telling the audience that he felt dizzy before sitting on the floor. He attempted to continue performing but eventually left the stage.
After a break of about 40 minutes, Richie's saxophonist returned to the stage and announced that the singer would not continue the performance.
“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well,” the saxophonist told the audience. “He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
Richie subsequently postponed two shows on the tour.
“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows,” a statement posted on his Instagram said at the time.
The statement added that Richie was “heartbroken” to postpone the performances and looked forward to returning to the stage for his fans.
The latest reported health concern comes as Lionel Richie continues performing during his joint tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
