TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States Vice President JD Vance said that President Donald Trump sent a message to Iran by releasing a video on social media depicting the destruction of Iran's Kharg Island.
According to ANTARA, Vance told reporters on Monday, August 31, that he believed the message was directed at Iran, noting that Iranian forces continued to fire on commercial vessels. He said Trump wanted to convey to Iran that the U.S. considers their actions unacceptable.
Earlier that day, Trump released an AI-generated video of the "destruction" of Iran's Kharg Island. The ten-second video on the Truth Social platform shows the island's oil production infrastructure engulfed in flames after the missile attack.
On June 18, 2026, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding to guarantee an end to military conflict.
However, starting on July 8, 2026, U.S. forces again launched a series of attacks against Iran, allegedly in response to Iran's actions against commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian forces then retaliated by attacking several U.S. bases in the Middle East.
Trump declared on July 9 that the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran was no longer in effect. Then on July 12, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, ending U.S. involvement in the region.
