TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of student organizations from various universities across Indonesia are set to hold a protest near the State Palace in Central Jakarta today, Monday, June 15, 2026.
The Student Executive Board of Bung Karno University is one of the organizers. The Chair of the Law Faculty Student Executive Board UBK, M. Abdi Maludin, said that apart from their organization, there are other student groups who will join the demonstration. "Those who have confirmed to join come from Paramadina University, Pamulang, Trilogi, Stiami Institute, and PTIQ," said Abdi when questioned via WhatsApp on Monday.
In today's protest, BEM UBK and the alliance are carrying the theme "Overhaul of Indonesia" with six demands for the Government of President Prabowo Subianto.
Among the six demands are the temporary suspension and evaluation of the free nutritious meal project and Kopdes Merah Putih (Red and White Village Cooperative); and a review of the Police Law.
Furthermore, to stop militarism and uphold civilian supremacy; pressuring the government to take strategic steps to maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate and national economic resilience; demanding the government to provide inclusive, quality, and affordable education for all Indonesian people.
"Lastly, we demand the government to review the increase in fuel prices as it burdens the public," said Abdi.
Regarding the escalation of the number of protesters, Abdi said that internally BEM UBK predicted a turnout of around 200 people. However, with the participation of several other campus organizations, the number of demonstrators is expected to increase.
According to Abdi, the "Overhaul of Indonesia" demonstration is based on the consolidation and internal study of BEM at UBK, which sees the country's current state of decline. This is evident in the emergence of various demands ranging from the discourse of Reformation 2 to the demand to stop the free nutritious meal project.
Prior to this, student protests were also held by the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) alliance on Friday, June 12, 2026. The planned action in the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout area failed to materialize after the protesters were confronted by a joint security force of the TNI-Polri in the MH Thamrin-Sudirman area.
The police argued that the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout (HI Roundabout) area was not permitted for holding demonstrations, considering the Jakarta Governor's Regulation which designated the area as a business and traffic epicenter. Nevertheless, the protesters carried out the action titled "Toward Indonesia's Bankruptcy" around the Sudirman-MH Thamrin area.
