US-Iran Talks in Switzerland Called Off, Report Says

3 hours ago 7

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced that talks between the United States and Iran scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday, June 19, have been canceled, RIA Novosti reported, citing Reuters.

As reported by ANTARA, it was previously reported that U.S. Vice President JD Vance had not left for Switzerland yet to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran because the technical plans for the talks had not been finalized.

On June 14, Iran and the U.S. confirmed that the drafting of the MoU had been completed. On Thursday, the two countries signed the MoU online to end the military conflict that began on February 28.

The MoU gives the U.S. and Iran 60 days to negotiate a final agreement on Iran's nuclear program and U.S. sanctions.

In addition, the document also sets a deadline for the U.S. to lift its naval blockade, and for Iran to restore shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
