TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has once again urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to investigate all incidents involving the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), following an explosion in El Addaiseh, southern Lebanon, on Friday that injured three more Indonesian peacekeepers.
In an official statement released in Jakarta on Saturday, April 4, 2026, as reported by Antara, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) expressed deep concern over the blast that targeted personnel serving under the UN banner.
"Indonesia once again urges the UN Security Council to promptly investigate all incidents involving UNIFIL and to immediately convene a meeting among the contributing countries of UNIFIL forces to conduct a review and take strengthening measures to protect troops serving in UNIFIL," the MFA stated.
The ministry noted that this latest injury of three personnel marks the third serious incident involving Indonesian peacekeepers within the past week alone.
Indonesia emphasized that such repeated attacks are fundamentally unacceptable, regardless of the cause, and stressed the urgent necessity to bolster the protection of UN peacekeeping forces as regional conflicts grow increasingly hazardous.
"Indonesia reiterates that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers are non-negotiable. Any action that jeopardizes them constitutes a serious violation of international law and cannot be left unaccountable," the statement read.
The Indonesian government is calling for a prompt, comprehensive, and transparent investigation to uncover the facts, including a clear chronology of events and the identification of responsible parties, asserting that full accountability must be upheld.
Indonesia noted that the incident occurred amidst Israeli attacks on Lebanon and ongoing military operations, including Israel's declared intent to expand its territory into southern Lebanon. This reality poses a severe risk of destabilizing the region and continues to put the lives of UN peacekeeping personnel in jeopardy.
The government also expressed its hopes for the swift recovery of the wounded and conveyed its deep solidarity to the personnel and their families.
The recent surge in violence has been costly for the Indonesian contingent; Praka Dua Farizal Rhomadhon was killed by artillery fire near Adchit Al Qusayr on Sunday.
The very next day, on Monday, Indonesia lost two more personnel when an escorted convoy came under attack.
Those killed in that Monday attack were Infantry Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
Meanwhile, a total of five other military personnel were injured in previous actions, including First Lieutenant Infantry Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, Chief Private (Praka) Deni Rianto, Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan.
With these three latest casualties, a total of eight TNI soldiers have now been injured while performing their duties as UN peacekeepers in Lebanon.
