Iranian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur: Tehran Doesn't Forget Its Friends

3 hours ago 8

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Iranian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has confirmed that Tehran is allowing Malaysian ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since the U.S.-Israel military strikes against Iran began in late February, signaling that Iran has not forgotten its friendly nations.

We had said that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not forget his friends. The first Malaysian ship passed through the Strait of Hormuz,” the embassy wrote on X on Monday.

Following this development, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement from Kuala Lumpur, noting, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to confirm that one of the seven (7) Malaysian-owned commercial vessels previously stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to the evolving regional situation has been granted safe passage and is currently proceeding to its final destination.”

The ministry added that the safe passage was achieved through high-level diplomatic engagements between Malaysian leaders and Iran.

Bloomberg previously reported that the number of vessels sailing through the strait has reached its highest level since the escalation in the Middle East triggered by the U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran.

On February 28, the United States and Israel targeted multiple sites in Iran, including Tehran, causing significant damage and civilian casualties.

Iran retaliated with attacks on Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities in the region, disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and liquefied natural gas exports from the Persian Gulf to global markets.

Iranian officials said that Tehran and Oman are discussing mechanisms to manage shipping in the strait. They added that Iran is facilitating the passage of vessels from non-hostile countries but will not allow ships linked to or affiliated with the U.S. or Israel to use the route.
