TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has taken the initial investigative steps into the train crash between the Argo Bromo Anggrek Gambir-Surabaya Pasar Turi train and the Commuter Line or Electric Rail (KRL) train bound for Kampung Bandan-Cikarang. The incident occurred at Bekasi Timur (East Bekasi) Station, Bekasi City, on Monday, April 27, 2026, around 8:57 PM local time.
KNKT Public Relations Team Leader, Anggo Anurogo, stated that their team had been at the scene moments after the incident. "To gather facts and information on site," Anggo said when contacted on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026.
The incident began when the KRL was stopped on track 1 at Bekasi Timur Station due to disruption caused by a collision between the train and a taxi from the opposite direction.
Shortly after, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train approached from behind and plowed through the women-only carriage of the Commuter Line train, causing severe damage.

President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Bobby Rasyidin, stated that all the victims had received medical treatment. "There were four fatalities and 79 people injured," Bobby said.
All the fatalities were confirmed to be passengers of the Commuter Line train. Meanwhile, all 240 passengers on the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were successfully evacuated unharmed.
Dozens of victims have now been evacuated and are receiving treatment at several referral hospitals. They are spread across RSUD Bekasi, RS (Hospital) Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur (East) and Barat (West).
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation has coordinated with relevant parties regarding the incident. "For the cause of the incident, we leave it to KNKT to conduct a more in-depth investigation," said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi.
